The Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) has announced the launch of UK Business Safety Week, which aims to reduce the risks of fires taking place at business premises.
The event will take place on 8-14 December and CFOA is inviting all UK fire and rescue services to sign up to support the campaign. Key stakeholders from the fire sector have already agreed to back the initiative, including the Fire Protection Association, Fire Industry Association, BAFE and the British Insurance Brokers’ Association.
UK Business Safety Week will focus on three key areas: fire risk management, fire risk assessment, and business continuity. The objective of the week is to promote the effective management of fire safety in buildings used for commercial, voluntary and community use in the UK.
CFOA is encouraging fire and rescue services to undertake direct engagement with business during the week. It is also urging them not to be prescriptive to businesses and instead to create local solutions and activities that match local risks and circumstances. As part of the campaign, CFOA will be producing a toolkit to help fire and rescue services plan, execute and evaluate activity during the week.
Fire Protection Association managing director Jon O’Neill said: ‘FPA welcomes and fully supports this initiative by CFOA as it gives due recognition to the importance and raises the profile of resilience to fire in the business community.’
