Safe Futures Campaign

RISCAuthority is supporting a major FPA initiative entitled ‘Safe Futures Campaign’ in a bid to get government to consider the 3 highest priority topics that RISCAuthority Members have established require urgent attention at the next review of Building Regulations.

Whilst efforts have been made to achieve representation on these issues, the clear lack of government appetite to embrace our views with any significance has led us to the conclusion that a more direct approach is required.

To this end polling-cards have been created which will be distributed en-mass with an accompanying manifesto for return by those supporting the initiative to Stephen Williams MP Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. Upon receipt, the MP will be duty bound to respond in person to each one and we hope that this will at least see the topics onto the BRAC (Building Regulations Advisory Committee) agenda.

The top three issues identified are:

  1. Solving the automatic fire alarm (AFA) issue with a call for the mandation of high integrity fire detection system in all new commercial premises
  2. Sprinklers – A call for the mandation of sprinklers in warehousing over 4,000sqm
  3. Modern Methods of Construction and a fresh eyes look at current Building Regulations to include fire ingress and the risks in combustible voids
