Toxicity of building materials as a selection criterion

This project will provide general lobbying and support for the investigation of whether toxicity should be a consideration in building product selection in high risk buildings.

Post Grenfell, there is considered a need to review the toxic threat posed by building products to occupants of buildings. It has always been considered that a room’s contents was all that contributed to an occupant’s toxic exposure in fire, but this is now questioned following the FPA’s work into cladding systems that revealed legitimate paths for gas flow between system and occupied spaces that could have lethal consequences.

The key deliverable of this project will include public speaking and written reviews.
