IQ3 is part of a series of questionnaires designed to elicit the technical information required to underpin a satisfactory fire protection system design.  

 

In this document ‘Building Compartment Protection – Systems incorporating thermally actuated closed heads’ refers to installations protecting building compartments to their boundaries with closed-head thermally actuated ‘bulbed’ spray heads arranged to protect the compartment in its entirety. Systems using ‘zoning’ within compartments are excluded.

This document seeks to elicit information pertinent to the design considerations given to the protection of business and property using this construction method against the perils posed by fire and water. As an emerging construction method, with low pedigree and probably insufficient research prior to adoption, this questionnaire approach has been adopted by the Passive Working Group as the best means for ensuring insurer engagement is made with a clear definition of insurer interests, evidencing needs, and perspective.

Following extensive research programmes by ABI, RISCAuthority, FPA, and others, a number of potential vulnerabilities were identified in the approvals and deployment process that this questionnaire seeks to address.
